He stood tall and waiting, as the guards came for him in the morning. John Sheppard was also among them and was monitoring him with a watchful eye while two of his men started to strap on the chains for his transport. "Do not worry John. It is still too early to be concerned." He thought with amused satisfaction as John Sheppard kept his suspicion against him alert. Not that it was entirely misguided. And not for the first time he acknowledged John Sheppard of being a worthy opponent. Although he wished he would not have to see him as such. Todd resolutely brushed the thought aside as superfluous. It was no longer of any relevance. Impassively he felt the leather cuffs firmly close around his waist, followed by his wrists and ankles. He would comply and wait. Move inside the small radius of action which was available to him. Step by step. Waiting for the moment when it was time for him to jump. Of course it had not yet come to pass. But it would come eventually. When the guards were done with his restrains one of them silently gave him a push to the shoulder to make him move. With a warning growl he flung his head towards the man in question. To play along for the moment was far from allowing the humans to handle him as they pleased. Immediately all weapons in the room were simultaneously at the ready and pointing towards him. Which had the same effect on Wraith as always. None. "Take your guns down !" he heard Sheppard's slightly annoyed voice order and Todd gave the flinched guard a last disparaging glare. Finally he turned his attention with blithe politeness towards John Sheppard. "Are we ready?" Todd asked and presented him with a  most courteous smile on his face as if it were entirely due to John that they were still standing in the cell. Sheppard rolled his eyes and sighed in exasperation. Demonstratively taking a small step to the side, though the way was not blocked at all, he hinted with a grimaced smile and a terse movement of his head towards the door. John could have throttled Todd as the Wraith nodded with a pleased smile his thanks to him and walked out of the door with his head held high. He would definitely not miss Todd's stupid games one bit ! Four guards ahead and four guards plus John Sheppard in tow, he walked through the familiar corridors of Atlantis. Allowing his attention to wander off for a moment he wondered not for the first time, what kind of  planet Earth was. Of course she would meet the general human needs. But no matter how much many planets were similar in appearance, the look was deceiving. Each planet was always fundamentally different from each other. And apart from the planet itself, it would be interesting from an evolutionary point of view to take a look at it. The humans on Earth had, after all, been allowed to evolve undisturbed in their technological progress. And the progress of these humans was a point on which he counted. Todd was instantly torn from his thoughts when the soldiers in front of him turned right instead of continuing straight ahead as expected. He knew the layout of Atlantis well enough by now to know that the shuttle bay was ahead and not to the right. This little unpredictability admonished him more than anything else to stay attentive at all time. He didn't allow his body to show his momentary confusion and followed the guards without hesitance. His senses however were on alert. He decided not to engage in premature conclusions to why they had changed the route and focused on simple observation instead. The corridor broadened suddenly and they headed for the doors of a transport chamber. Because of the limited space inside the chamber, Sheppard sent four of the guards ahead and escorted him with the rest at the second time. They arrived at the end of yet another corridor and the eyes of the Wraith welcomed the pleasant twilight that reigned here. "Remote area. Little or not used."  Todd thought automatically as he let his look slide over the floor and walls. They continued their way and he saw the warning glance from Sheppard as the Colonel passed him to take the lead of their little procession. Soon after a wide door opened to his left, and besides the glaring sunlight Todd's nostrils were struck by the smell of salt water and a series of stinking substances, which he did not recognize. In addition he heard a flapping noise that seemed vaguely familiar. When he stepped into the open and into the gleaming sunlight he found himself standing onto one of Atlantis' arms. They moved on and with a keen look Todd started to explore his surroundings. A huge expanse of water stretched before him and lost itself at the horizon. Vessels that sailed those waters but were far away. The tip of a land mass was approximately one mile away. Under normal circumstances it would be close enough to reach in one swift dive. With the shackles on nothing but impossible to move quickly enough to escape a recapture. He glanced at the sky. One sun visible. Todd focused his attention on his more immediate surroundings. Atlantis seemed undamaged at first glance. But at a closer look he spotted burn marks and one of the smaller towers at the neighbouring arm showed signs of structural fatigue. Was a damage to the main Tower the reason they did not take him by Jumper ? They had almost passed the huge buildings on the far end of the dock and before they could block the view, Todd quickly shot a glance back towards the main tower. The tower appeared undamaged, but .... "Eyes forward!" the guard behind him barked and obviously felt brave enough to push him onward with his rifle. Gulping down his anger he complied. As they followed the angled dock the landing platforms came into view and Todd saw the origin of the flapping noise. A dark and bulky aircraft with a large horizontally mounted rotor and a smaller vertical one was standing on one of them. He wrinkled his forehead a bit mystified. Now that he saw the source he recalled why its sound seemed familiar. Over six cycles ago the Satedans had developed a similar device. He had seen it briefly in action during their fourth and last technical achievements purification. But why did the humans of earth have such a primitive device in use ? Todd pondered over the question a moment longer before he reminded himself that looks were deceiving. During his first visit on Earth he had worked with some crude looking computers that turned out to be surprisingly efficient. Todd saw that Sheppard had reached the first group of soldiers that were waiting for them at a safe distance from the air vehicle, that produced not only an annoyingly loud noise but also a gush of wind that carried away a lot of Sheppard's words as he was talking to an officer. He could just make out a handful of words. The name of the officer who apparently bore the strange sound Higgs and something about a black bird of pray. Nothing of any real value. To his surprise an all too familiar figure suddenly parted from another, more distant cluster of soldiers and came straight towards their group. His so distinctively grim faced hardened even more as his eyes fell upon the Wraith and he adjusted his route slightly. A notorious expression of disgust and hostility was parted by a malicious and gleeful sneer as he stopped closely in front of the Wraith. Todd gave him a delightful smile. "Ronon ! How nice of you to bid me farewell. " he gave him his best show of cheerfulness and an aggressive muscle twitched over the Satedan's face. Todd visibly basked in his barely repressed irritation with him. "Or have you only come to indulge yourself in ancient and more glorious times ?" he teased the man further and threw a casual and nostalgic glance towards the aircraft. That hit home. With one furious jump the Satedan was upon him and violently seized him by the collar with both hands. Eye to eye they were staring at each other. But it was only the Wraith who still smiled. Ronon was far from being a feeble man and their collision had been vigorous. But Todd had been expecting the attack and unnoticeably had shifted his weight forward already. And just as he also had expected the guards and Sheppard were promptly at the ready to save the day. The muzzle of  a good dozen rifles flew up all around them and more were coming at a swift run. Ronon did as much care about it as the Wraith did. The Satedan was clearly beside himself and Todd enjoyed his wrath to the fullest while mocking it in defiance. An enraged scream escaped Ronon's clenched teeth and Todd felt the Satedan's fists tighten around the frail cloth he was forced to wear. John's face suddenly appeared in Todd's field of vision while he continued to watch the frenzied Satedan. He relished very much the tortured helplessness of the human, who clearly pictured in great detail and in bright colours what he would do to him if he had the chance. If he had the chance. But he did not ! Didn't he ?! A little fact that Todd happily poured like acid into his gleeful and cheeky grin. Ronon was shaking by now. It was highly amusing. "Ronon !" Todd heard Sheppard's alert voice screaming over the roar of the rotor blades. And out of the corner off his eyes he saw the Colonel's hand placing itself onto the Satedan's right forearm. "Let him go !" John commanded sharply and pierced his friend with a stern look. Todd could feel Ronon's fingers tighten even more and felt the cloth give way. He sneered. Sheppard did not dare to take his eyes off Ronon and swallowed down his own anger. If he could have, he would have loved to grab Todd by the collar himself. The Wraith was really a pain in the ass ! And no ! He would most definitely not miss Todd's stupid games ! "Ronon ! Let him go ! That's an order, God damn it !" he bellowed emphatically. It took a moment  before Ronon started, very reluctantly, to loosen his tight grip. Relieved, John slowly withdrew his hand as the word "order" seemed to have done the trick once again.   But suddenly Ronon pulled the Wraith vigorously toward him and Todd bared his teeth menacingly. The Satedan's eyes literally burned with hatred and contempt for him. "I hope you enjoy your meals after Dr. Keller is finished with you !" he spat at Todd who in turn pierced the human with a fierce stare, carefully not giving away his deep bitterness. Ronon pushed the Wraith with an enraged and disgusted outcry away from him and Todd stumbled backwards. Due to his shackles he barely managed to stay on his feet. Catching himself in time he glared sinister at the Satedan whose eyes loathed every fibre of him and his kind. Todd's yellow eyes darkened alarmingly as he drew himself up to his full height. Quickly and with a very angry and stern look John Sheppard stepped in front of him. "Get...into...the...helicopter !" John stressed out every single word with emphasis and it was abundantly clear that his patience was entirely exhausted. Todd slowly lowered his eyes until they came to rest upon Sheppard's. With a tartish grimace and a last dirty and derogatory glance at Ronon he finally turned around. Sheppard gave the guards a terse nod and watched as they escorted Todd to the helicopter. He took a deep breath and quickly signed the documents with which he confirmed to have handed the Wraith over to Captain Higgs.   "Just watch him very carefully and expect anything." he advised the Captain who was slightly younger than himself. Higgs glanced over to the Wraith and nodded in comprehension. "Yes ..." the Captain mumbled absentminded for a second, before he turned around again. "Do not worry, Sir. We will bring him safely to his destination." Higgs said with a confident smile and John handed him over the clipboard. After they were finished with the paperworks the Captain saluted him and headed towards the helicopter. Sheppard shoved the papers into his pocked while watching the Blackhawk readying for departure. Todd sat stoically in his seat while being strapped into his safety belt and his shackles were carefully anchored to the bottom plates. Twelve heavily armed soldiers and two attack helicopters would keep him company until they arrived at Area 51. Not even Todd would manage to escape. Again John took a deep breath and felt himself relax. He sent a short prayer to Heaven nevertheless. Although he was not a believer, a little precaution could not hurt. He turned towards his men and pointed them to pull back from the dock. Ronon, who was still fuming and mauling the helicopter with his burning gaze, stood a bit further off. Sheppard stepped up to him and gave him a friendly pat on the shoulder to give him the signal to also retreat from the platform. When they reached a safe distance Sheppard however turned around himself once more. The door of the helicopter was already closed and the rotor blades had gained momentum. Shortly after the Blackhawk rose elegantly into the air. Keeping low over the water for now, the helicopter was soon out of his sight. Sheppard took a deep breath. Todd was gone. And God willing he would never have to see him in his lifetime again. And that, he confessed, was a very pleasant thought indeed. Cheerfully he put his hands into his trouser pockets and stepped inside. He would be off duty in a few hours. And he so would enjoy his Budweiser tonight !
This is the second part of my little story. Hope you enjoy :)
